Our painting and wallpaper projects
Interiors, wallpaper and exteriors across Highland Park, Lake Forest and the North Shore, and further into Chicagoland. Our own photographs, with what the work involved and what to look for in each one.
Interiors
Interior painting
Look at the edges. The line where a wall meets the trim is cut in by hand, and it is the first thing that gives a repaint away. Then look at the walls in the light coming across them: patched dents and old repairs show through paint unless the surface was made flat first. Most of the work in these rooms happened before any color went on.
Wallpaper
Wallpaper installation
Look at the seams and the corners. Paper is hung so the pattern carries across a seam without a break and without an overlap you can feel, and a room is rarely square, so the pattern has to be planned from the wall that matters most. On a ceiling or an alcove the work is in the cutting. The wall underneath was skimmed and primed first, because paper shows every ridge.
Exteriors
Exterior painting
Look at where the surfaces meet: fascia to soffit, siding to trim, wood to masonry. Those joints are where weather gets in and where a repaint fails first. Bare wood is primed, failed paint is taken back to a sound edge rather than coated over, and caulk is renewed at the joints rather than painted across.
